Biography:
Md. Atiqul Islam was born on January 01, 1981 in Pabna, Bangladesh, where he obtained S.S.C and H.S.C accredited by Santhia Pilot High School and Govt. Edward College, Pabna. Next, he studied both B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Statistics at the Department of Statistics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh. He secured first position in both programs. After graduating as a statistician, he was appointed as a young academic lecturer at the same department. Later in 2009, he received VLIR-UOS awards scholarships from Flemish Government to pursue Master in Biostatistics at the Center for Statistics (CenStat), Hasselt University, Belgium. This has led to his master thesis in Biostatistics, entitled “Herd-level risk factors associated with bovine brucellosis sero-positivity and abortion in Bangladesh”. He applied joint mixed effects modeling to identify the association between brucellosis seropositivity and abortion. In July 2017, Atiqul was awarded his PhD degree from University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen, the Netherlands. During his PhD trajectory, he explored the heterogeneity in cognitive functioning and clinical symptoms in people with psychotic disorders and their unaffected siblings using cross-sectional and longitudinal data under Genetic Risk and Outcome of Psychosis (GROUP) project.
